Transient and enduring values

Abstract

Many times in our lives we may wonder what is worth doing and what is not, what is worth collecting and what is not, what is worth learning and what is not? We seek answers to these questions as we walk the way of life and often forget that man’s purpose is to reach eternal life through life on earth. Thus all life is a way, the way of our spiritual development. In this way, as the final goal approaches, we can reach a spiritual rest in which we can look back with gratitude on the series of events we have experienced in our lives, that is, the journey we have taken here on Earth in the time and space given to us.

On one hand, we could have hardly influenced the circumstances of all these events, but on the other hand, in every life situation, we had the option to choose the good and thus turn this little part of the world in the right direction.

The following reflection shows three different aspects of the circumstances that affect us and our decision-making situations in the world: the society in which we were born, the economic arrangement, and finally the existence of spiritual values.

Considering all three circumstances we can say that while there are many determinants and unintentional decision-making starting points, at the end of our journey we will ultimately report to our Heavenly Father on how we have capitalized on our opportunities and how we supported the unfolding good in the world.
