Abstract
The lecture aims to indicate general and universal relationships between culture, economic system and demography.
First, the author provides important differantiation between Central Europe and Western and Eastern. Therefore, author suggests that the culture, historical experience and geopolitical situation of the regions demands tailored policies.
Then, based on chosen examples the author tries to reconstruct historical influences that directed demographic explosions in Europe in XXth century – and their relations with economy and nature of this relation, which is not always obvious.
Next, the analysis show how the culture preserves the patterns of couple relationship for a very long time and immunizes this patterns to external – economic or political – conditions.
Finally, the author tries to describe modern challenges for the development of couple relationships and family and assess wether they are rooted rather in grassroots culture, in the state policy or in pure economics. The author also formulates conclusions on how and what remedies should be implemented.
