Why marriage is so important and what can we do to strengthen and protect it?

Abstract

Mihaela shares what led to the establishment of the Society and Values Association (SVA) and how they were able to prevent harmful to the individual, the family and the society bills and policies in Bulgaria since 2007. SVA has played a key role in preventing the legalization of prostitution, civil partnerships, surrogacy, the ratification of the Istanbul Convention etc. through informing, educating and activating like-minded citizens.

In order to encourage and support the marriage and family SVA initiated the celebration of the International Marriage Week in Bulgaria in 2012. At that time the country is at the bottom of the number of marriages per person in Europe. Since the beginning of the initiative the marriages went up with over 35% as many prominent people supported the initiative. In her presentation Mihaela underlines how the science, researches, and the consequences in countries that have legalized certain policies proves the importance of protecting human dignity and freedom, marriage and family for the well-being of the individual, the family and the society.
